Job Description
Job Description The Forklift Driver plays a critical role in foundry operations by safely transporting finished castings and materials between the shipping area, staging lanes, and outbound trucks. This position is responsible for loading and unloading trailers, organizing outbound orders, banding and palletizing castings, and maintaining clear, safe traffic lanes in and around the shipping dock. The driver works closely with logistics coordinators, truck drivers, and production departments to ensure the correct parts are picked, staged, and loaded according to paperwork and schedule. Attention to detail, situational awareness around pedestrians and mobile equipment, and strict adherence to established foundry safety procedures are required to minimize damage, downtime, scrap, and safety incidents while ensuring on-time shipment to customers.
Responsibilities: - Operate forklifts and other material handling equipment to move castings and materials between the shipping department, staging lanes, and loading docks. - Load and unload trucks and trailers according to shipping instructions. - Verify part numbers, quantities, and pallet tags against shipping paperwork before loading. - Build, band, and palletize loads so that product is stable, protected, and suitable for transport. - Use banding, strapping, dunnage, and shrink wrap as required to secure product on pallets or in trailers. - Stage outbound orders in designated lanes and maintain clear identification of each load. - Perform and document pre-shift forklift inspections; report and tag out unsafe equipment in accordance with company procedures. - Maintain clean, organized shipping, dock, and staging areas, including removal of debris, banding, and broken pallets. - Maintain safe travel speeds, obey horn and right-of-way rules, and remain alert to pedestrians, other forklifts, and changing conditions. - Assist shipping clerks with locating product, re-tagging pallets, and updating paperwork or labels as directed. - Communicate effectively with production, quality, and maintenance when product is missing, damaged, or not ready to ship. - Support inventory counts by moving, labeling, and counting pallets as assigned. - Follow all foundry safety policies, lockout/tagout requirements (when applicable to material handling tasks), and PPE standards at all times. Additionally, safety is our highest priority and safety procedures and guidelines must be always adhered to. This includes wearing PPE such as hard hat, eye protection, hearing protection, flame retardant clothing, and steel toe work boots. Pre-employment drug screening is required.
